Privacy, schmivacy.

And now, in the aftermath of Jane Creba's death, the debate has turned to whether or not more surveillance cameras ought to be installed.

As I watch the news, every now and then someone mutters about "privacy" as in violating people's right to privacy. In public places.

I was watching with someone who said, "Privacy my foot!"

I, on the other hand, thought up a more profane response. I kept it to myself though...

In the first place, once you're out in the open, especially in the downtown of an urban area...I'm sorry. But if you expect anything you do at that point to be considered private, you're dreaming. And if you're downtown doing something that you think ought to be kept private...You know what? You shouldn't be there in the first place. Forget cameras. One way or another, someone WILL see you.

It's not as though they're talking about a pervert or peeping tom. They're talking about security cameras. I haven't got anything to hide. And if I did have something to hide, I can guarantee I wouldn't be foolish enough to do it where every Jane and John Doe could get an eyeful.

We're talking about saving lives and keeping people safe. So long as your intentions are honorable...I say go ahead, tape away.
