Awwwwwww.

I haven't been sick in ages. But the people at Giant Microbes have made illness adorable. That's a Sore Throat microbe, BTW. Isn't he cute...?

Coolness!

I'm constantly fascinated by humanity--our cultures, our variations...And our voices.

I admit I dont' know as much as I'd like. But I just found a great new resource.

neofundamental: my own faq

It's "my own" because no one's asked me outright. I just feel like sharing. ;)

What's in a name?

For those of you who didn't visit my space way-back-when, my blog used to be named, simply, after my first and middle name.

But somehow I've always been uncomfortable about naming my blog after myself. Yes, this is me, but...All along I've wanted to name it something different. Something that reflected my personality as well as the spirit of my posts.

Plus, a little anonymity can come in handy every now and then.

And just what do you mean by neofundamental? Is that even a word?

It is now.

The prefix "neo" refers to things that are new. "Fundamental", of course, means important. And I try to post about things that are current or "new". Plus, whether serious or silly, I wouldn't mention something if I didn't think it was worth sharing.

I also believe the word "fundamental" fits for spiritual reasons. (It's minus the "ist".) Faith is important to me. As I mentioned in the post announcing the big switcheroo...I believe I ought to be able to discuss my spirituality openly and honestly.

Here's a brief anecdotal flashback: A few years ago I had a consultation regarding my resume. I presented a draft which included some religious experience. (In university, I used to present selected Bible verses during my residence's chapel services.) The gentleman I met with read this item on my resume, nodded, and said, "[Ms. N], don't hide who you are".
It's true that we try to present our best selves to the world every day. But how much fun can you really have when you reveal only a part of your best?

When it comes to Christianity, I used to consider myself a liberal. By "liberal" I mean that I don't think I'm a religious elitist. I don't believe my faith somehow makes me superior to other human beings.

But at the heart of me, I know that I am an Evangelical Christian, or, dare I say, a Fundamentalist. I believe in God, I trust in Him and strive to give my life to Him every day. I believe in the wisdom of a young man named Jesus who once walked the earth. I believe that the Bible consists of more than a bunch of fairy tales. I've always taken it seriously and appreciated its wisdom.

So what about the original neofundamental? It had some good posts and questions and there were a few interesting scripture references...

Yes, but I got sick of switching between two blogs. However, since I love the name, I decided to keep it. ;) At the same time, my original blog was the older blog. Hence, its length and content won my Celebrity Blog Deathmatch.

Please enjoy your stay...

Here's something you don't hear every day.

Black Panther and Canada in the same sentence.

Well, maybe not sentence. But still. Here are a few paragraphs.

Does everyone run up here to hide?

Also from Nykola

What the...?

I don't care what your beliefs are. Since when is an issue as serious (and morbid) as an abortion worthy of being a fashion statement?

I haven't been this disgusted in ages.

Thank you, Planned Parenthood!

More Bill for your buck

Well...Not really.

But the story of Mr. Bill Cosby and his comments about problems in the black community continues.

I was visiting Nykola today when I found this gem.

The fact that Mr. Cosby has to defend himself still bothers me. What's the sense in vilifying people for telling the truth?

Hungry, man?

Not any more.

This breakfast of champions was brought to my attention today. The nutritional information was enough to make me gag.

Don't get me wrong. I love greasy, gooey food.

But...

Ugh!

Maybe it's all in how it was explained...?

I'm so excited....

And I just can't hide it!!

Oh wait.

Maybe I can.

Don't get me wrong. I'm looking forward to starting school soon. In a year from now, I'll be a qualified teacher.

Imagine me unleashed on today's youth!

Hahaha!

Still, there's a part of me that's in awe of what I'm doing. And a teeny tiny part of me is intimidated.

I'm going to play a part in raising this nation's next generation.

Come Sept 2005, maybe you ought to lock up your kids! :p

Cute!

I see it's been a while. Sorry 'bout that!

Anyways.

I haven't seen Spiderman 2. But if this spoof is any indication, I'm in for a great time.

Enjoy!

On Race

I've always believed that in spite of our differences, human beings are all fundamentally the same. I found a great site that supports my sentiments.

That isn't to say that our differences aren't important. Or that variations in language and heritage aren't worth respecting. Or that our various histories ought to be forgotten. I don't think that's true at all.

Nevertheless check out PBS's Race: The Power of An Illusion. Their test, under "Sorting People" will give you food for thought.

In case you can't tell

I'm thinking of starting a blog with a spiritual focus. I haven't decided officially one way or the other. But I need a means of sharing all of me, including my faith.

Web Recommendation

Here's an article I just read read regarding RELEVANT magazine.

Who says faith has to be boring?

I still love Bill

Wonder why?

Maybe it's just how I was raised. But when you know there's a problem, you say something. Even better--do something.

DO NOT sit still.

God bless Bill.
